We are pleased to announce the promotion of Patrick Smith to associate, Julie James to senior administrator, and Daniel Shaw and Kane Mitchell to senior engineers.

Patrick Smith

Patrick joined us in our London office in 2019 as a principal engineer after seven years with SFL Group culminating in project managing the installation of the sound system for the Royal Albert Hall Sound of the Future project to a specification developed by Sandy Brown.

Patrick received his BEng in Acoustical Engineering from ISVR at the University of Southampton in 2009, subsequently working as freelance sound engineer for four years before diverting to train as an air traffic controller, returning to acoustics and audio in 2012 to work for SFL Group as a project manager.

Since joining he has helped further develop our sound system work, including on the Museum of London and Methodist Central Hall. Patrick has also lead the acoustic design for Index Ventures, BNY Mellon, Carrington Club and the current phases on Greenwich Millennium Village.

Julie James

Julie started working for Sandy Brown in September 1997 and has seen us through many changes, challenges, and celebrations over the years.

She has worked in many varied roles during her time including IT, HR, marketing, finance, and events, as well as general administration. Julie has progressed and developed a skillset that has been essential to providing support to the technical and administration teams and has demonstrated her ability to take on new challenges.

Dan Shaw

After graduating from ISVR at the University of Southampton in 2018 with a MEng in Acoustical Engineering, Dan joined our Manchester office having done summer placements with Arup Acoustics in 2016 and Sandy Brown in 2017.

As well as all the acoustic testing and survey work Dan has developed experience in office fit-outs and residential developments including planning, change of use and refurbishment schemes. He has recently undertaken a detailed planning assessment for an office-to-residential conversion at the Cathedral Buildings, Newcastle, located within a complex noise environment that has several nightclubs situated nearby.

Kane Mitchell

Kane joined us on a student placement year in 2017 and continued to work for us part time during his final year at Salford University studying BEng Audio Acoustics. He joined our Manchester office as an engineer in 2019 after graduating.

Having gained extensive experience in environmental and building acoustics surveys and testing, he has been integral to the acoustic designs for numerous Apple stores and studios for Apple music. He is currently involved in the mixed-use redevelopment of Old Granada Studios project which will provide a hotel, office, private members club and studio spaces.
