Contract signed for new £162 million ‘Hall for All’

We are delighted to announce that the contract to deliver the new Dunard Centre concert hall has been signed with Balfour Beatty.

The Dunard Centre will be Edinburgh’s first purpose-built concert hall in over a century. It will serve as the home of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, a key venue for the Edinburgh International Festival, and a year-round space for music, spoken word, and corporate events. Construction is set to begin in the coming weeks, with the hall scheduled to open in 2029.

Sandy Brown is responsible for the design of noise and vibration control of the hall’s building services, building envelope sound insulation, and internal sound insulation between all areas and the hall. The room acoustic design of the hall is by Nagata Acoustics, and Sandy Brown has now been employed by Balfour Beatty to help deliver this aspect of the project too. Given the hall’s diverse programme, including amplified music, controlling noise breakout to neighbouring residences is a critical aspect of the building’s design.

We look forward to working with all involved during the construction over the coming few years.
