Project summary

22 Bishopsgate is situated in the City of London, close to Bank and Liverpool Street stations. Skadden Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP London headquarters occupy 65,000 sq ft over Levels 38 to 40 of London’s tallest office building.

The fit-out includes meeting rooms with full audio and video conferencing ability, a cellular office approach for confidential working, open plan workstations, phone rooms an on-site warming kitchen, café/hub, reception, welfare spaces as well as occupants having wider access to the buildings shared amenities.

The brief was to deliver a high quality acoustics design which achieved client driven aspirations for excellent privacy alongside an extensive conference suite with optimised room acoustics. The acoustic design around on-floor catering services and plant rooms was carefully coordinated such that conference and office facilities were fully protected from noise and vibration.

Detailed design

Sandy Brown provided advice on all aspects of the design including architectural acoustics, building services noise & vibration control, and worked closely with the design team to deliver ideal conditions for conference facilities.

A very high level of sound insulation was achieved for the conference suite, including high specification glazing and doors to room fronts. Uplifts to the facade interfaces were achieved with bespoke enhancements to the mullion systems and perimeter detailing.

Extensive assessments of the building services design were carried out to ensure that low background noise levels for critical spaces were achieved and crosstalk was suitably controlled. Acoustically absorbent finishes were specified throughout, including specialist finishes to conference room walls, with a good control of reverberation demonstrated through commissioning measurements despite difficult glazing configurations.
