One Ashley Road is the first building to be launched as part of Related Argent’s Heart of Hale masterplan, which aims to transform the north London area into a hub for new homes, retail, leisure and commercial spaces.

The complex features two residential towers; an 18-storey tower and a 12-storey tower, connected by a low-rise block. It comprises 20,600 square meters and 183 apartments, including studios and one, two, and three-bedroom units. The ground and first floors host retail, leisure, and office spaces, while a hexagonal terrace atop the central block provides a communal green space.

Sandy Brown was appointed as the acoustic consultant for the development to ensure optimal acoustics throughout the various spaces. Key aspects of our design work included input into the Environmental Statement, specifying the building envelope performance, ensuring appropriate sound insulation within apartments, managing noise transfer between spaces and controlling reverberation in common areas such as lobbies and retail units.

To assess external noise levels affecting each facade, Sandy Brown conducted environmental surveys and 3D acoustic modelling. This informed the sound insulation targets for the building’s facades which were necessary to create a comfortable acoustic environment for residents.

The Northumberland Park Spur to the London Underground Victoria Line runs beneath the site which posed an additional challenge. Underground train movements risked ground-borne vibrations causing re-radiated noise within the building. Sandy Brown took the client team through audio simulations of re-radiated train noise, resulting from a detailed analysis of the potential impacts. This enabled us to quantify appropriate noise targets with the client and establish effective mitigation strategies which were subsequently successfully implemented.
