Project summary

A landmark international headquarters in the centre of Geneva, for Japan Tobacco International is situated between Lake Geneva and the Alps.

The geometric shaped building with its quilted skin glazed Closed Cavity Façade encloses a central courtyard. The unique building has an integrated design, sustainability, and innovative workplace solution. The building development spans across 9,825 sqm that includes open plan office space, 66 meeting rooms, 31 collaborative areas, 23 coffee stations, along with a business centre, day care centre, auditorium, fitness centre, restaurant, plus 2 roof terraces and several social spaces.

The acoustic design included advice on the performance of building envelope, internal sound insulation between the various areas and the achievement of suitable acoustic quality for open plan offices. Key acoustic features include acoustic modelling of open plan areas. The Level 7 restaurant with a theatre kitchen at its tallest is some 11m high and this large volume raising acoustic concerns. The room was modelled and mitigated with sound absorption treatments. The 160 seat auditorium was designed for flexibility to accommodate both music and speech.
