Project summary
Refurbishment, re-modelling and extension to 17 Charterhouse Street to create 40,000 sq. ft of additional accommodation, bringing the overall NIA to over 200,000 sq. ft over seven stories.
The works included the demolition and re-construction of the existing building envelope as well as some of the structure and cores to create an open, flexible and contemporary workplace for Anglo American & DeBeers. Also included was the removal and replacement of all MEP services.
Sandy Brown was appointed to work alongside MCM Architecture Limited through both Shell and Core and fit-out to Cat B standards, then were retained in a client monitoring role through construction and commissioning.
Acoustic quality aspirations where high, and the project also targeted credits under the BREEAM sustainability scheme. As well as a large top-floor business meeting suite, open plan and cellular workspaces, the project also featured an imposing entrance with reception and cafe spaces, its own restaurant and dining hall, and staff gymnasium and wellness studios, which all required careful room acoustics and separation to other areas.
